Lecce notes of art… simphony pf culture
(Paolo Buttazzo)
Lecce is wonderful, a lively and elegant town, but living your holiday hosted in a historical home is a really exclusive experience. Your stay in Lecce will be unforgettable thanks to this house: it is in a palace built in the sixteenth century that has been finely and perfectly restored, trying to respect its original features. Also furniture is original and antique.
Holiday Home Basseo33
The house is at the mezzanine floor of Palazzo Sambiasi and, in the past, it was the Chapel of the building itself. It is an almost 80 square metres open-space.
The house has got mighty walls made of stone of Lecce, with columns of the same material and topped by amazing vaulted ceilings; the tones of colour are quite wondrous and change from yellowish-white to reddish-brown.
The style of the arch windows, their lintels, the material they are made of and the method of construction “a vista” are evidences of the age of the house, dating back to the sixteenth century.
The house is formed by two rooms just separated by three asymmetrical arches.
The first room is a hall and living-room, with two entrance doors, the first on Via Marco Basseo, the second on the lobby of the building. This room is under two asymmetrical vaults and, considered its width, it can also be used for cultural events.
The second room is behind the three arches and under a third vault. It is a wide bedroom with its wide and bright bathroom whose window has a view on the palace courtyard; the bathroom walls are coated with marble with various shades of colour.
The shower cabin is wide and comfortable (120 cm x 95 cm); besides the bathroom has a particular cupboard, made where once there was a fireplace.
The floor is made of Trani’s white and fine marble.
The house is also endowed with a kitchenette, fridge, stove and sink. There are also tableware and pots.
If needed, the king-size bed can be replaced by two single beds. Besides, two more beds can be added.
The house is also endowed with two air-conditioners in order to both heat and cool the rooms.
The original furniture dates back to the nineteenth century. The present owner has decorated the rooms wall with posters of famous jazz musicians, well combined with contemporary sculptures made by talented local artists.
In the basement, under the house, there is an old hypogeal oil-mill, 150 square metres wide. At present this area cannot be used by guests, but it can be toured.
Through a strong glass, put on the floor of the living room, you can see an sixteenth-century well, used by ancient inhabitants to draw on water, taken by the underground river Idume.
We knew that Salento was wonderful, that Lecce was a jewel we knew, that art, nature and cuisine were the best that our peninsula could offer.
What we did not know is that, in the heart of this city, there is a historic home so beautiful and welcoming, tastefully restored with love by its owners, that we will never stop thanking for their warm welcome and their care.
We wanted to congratulate you for the beautiful home that has hosted us these days. Not only the architectural beauty that characterizes the complex of refined and high quality elements, but in particular your kindness and professionalism have made this short holiday an indelible memory of our visit in Salento
